The cooper shop was amazing.
Judy from Utah commented on the following facts about the Smith Family Farm.
100 acres was a lot of land to clear; they removed stumps and rocks from fields in order to plow with horse-drawn plows.
The Smiths had more than 1500 sugar maple trees to tap and get maple syrup from. It took 40 gallons of sap to get 1 gallon of syrup.
Because the Smith family was very poor, they did many different things to bring in money for their needs. Lucy Mack Smith even painted tablecloths and sold them.
It was in the log cabin that the Angel Moroni first visited Joseph Smith. Joseph said, “This messenger proclaimed himself to be an angel of God, sent to bring the joyful tidings that the covenant which God made with ancient Israel was at hand to be fulfilled, that the preparatory work for the second coming of the Messiah was speedily to commence; that the time was at hand for the Gospel in all its fullness to be preached in power, unto all nations that a people might be prepared for the Millennial reign. I was informed that I was chosen to be an instrument in the hands of God to bring about some of His purposes in this glorious dispensation.” (1842 Wentworth Letter)
Joseph hid the plates beneath the hearth in the frame house.
