24 Jul - Yelrome

This was the settlement of 70-100 families headed by Isaac Morley. Brother Whiting, one of Morley’s counselors, was an ancestor to some members of our group. They had shops and a school and it was a thriving settlement. It was burned by the mobs in 1845 and the marker was placed there in 1977. Two revelations, D&C 130 and 131, were given at Ramos (which means branch), a branch of the church in this area.
The Quincy convention set the time for the Mormons to leave Illinois, but the mobs couldn’t wait and drove them out of Nauvoo and the surrounding areas earlier.
