22-23 Jul - Joseph and Hyrum Smith Memorial

Located across the street from the Nauvoo Temple, this bronze work shows Joseph and Hyrum on horseback as they reach the bluff and look back over the city on their way to Carthage. Joseph commented that the people were the best on the earth but that they had no clue about what was to come. Pat said, “I was overcome with a mixture of sadness and reverence for these two men and their families as I looked over the city and then gazed up at their faces on the statues. They gave much because of their witness for the Savior.”
