21 Jul - Post Office

We got to see the Post Office, which was established in 1841 on the bottom floor of the Tinsley building. We saw the schedules for outgoing and incoming mail, as well as replicas of the first two stamps: Ben Franklin 5À and George Washington 10À. It was interesting to learn that in the early days, either the sender or the receiver had to pay the postage. In order to ensure the Post Office got their money, however, a law was passed requiring the sender to pay.
