The pageant began with a parade of cast and audience members following the bagpipes to the stage and their seats. There are 20 core cast members with speaking parts and 150 members of the ensemble. The cast tells the story of Nauvoo and the prophet Joseph. One of the stories is of a Scottish immigrant who comes with his wife who is a member. His association with the Prophet Joseph and the members of the Church lead to his baptism and many other blessings. Even though he loses a son on the crossing of the Atlantic, he is blessed as the temple is completed and his family grows in Nauvoo.
Major themes in the pageant are faith, family, community, prophets, the scriptures, and testimony of Jesus Christ. It was a testimony builder for many in our group as we looked upon the lives of those who lived in Nauvoo. The spirit truly bore witness of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed through the Prophet Joseph and lived by the Saints in the 1840’s in this place.
