Here is where the Saints settled after they were expelled from Missouri. The people of Quincy welcomed them, and soon they began purchasing land in what was known as the Commerce area. Joseph soon envisioned a thriving community and renamed it Nauvoo—Hebrew for beautiful. In the 1830’s and 1840’s, it was the 2nd largest city in Illinois. During this time 14 revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants were given and the Relief Society was organized. Revelations 124-129, and 132 of the Doctrine and Covenants were recorded during this time. Today Nauvoo is one of the nation’s larges restored historic sites and is a National Historic Landmark. We spend 3 nights and 2 days in this beautiful city. To get a glimpse of more Nauvoo visit www.historicnauvoo.net.
